The Saluki is perhaps the oldest breed of domestic dog. A study published in the May 21, 2004 issue of Science, confirmed the antiquity the Saluki through DNA analysis that identifies it as one of the first races that do not coincide with the wolves. As elsewhere in the region Fertile Crescent, Saluki-like animals appear in ancient ceramics from Susa and Sialk 3500 BC in Iran and in Egyptian tombs from 2100 BC. The breed was first imported to England in 1840, however, there is no real interest until the Hon. Florence Amherst imported the first Saluki in 1895 in hatcheries Prince Abdullah of Transjordan. The Kennel Club recognized breed in 1923.
Widely admired for its beauty, speed and endurance, the Saluki is a greyhound and historically traveled throughout the Middle East with nomadic tribes in a desert area that extends Sahara to the Caspian Sea. Accordingly, the various subtypes, Saluki, which vary in color and layer can be found scattered in this area.
Although Greyhound is the dog breed the fastest with a speed of about 45 mph (72 km / h), the Saluki strength lies in its great strength and endurance. You can be the fastest greyhounds, but can operate for much longer than the sprint races.

They are 58-71cm and 13-30kg weight. The general aspect of the Saluki is one of grace and symmetry.
