There is very little written about the origins of imitation gold leaf. I am of the opinion that probably originated during the industrial era.

It has a 2 color similar to the 22K gold leaf, an alloy composed of 15% zinc and copper by 85%. It is the color that I recommend and use myself.
No. 3 is a yellow color, made of an alloy of 18% zinc and copper by 82%.
These alloys when combined, resemble greatly to the good looks of real metals into gold.
The thickness of the sheet is approximately 0.3 microns.
Each book of this gold leaf contains 25 sheets of about 5 inches square.
When the real gold leaf is used outdoors must be protected by a transparent varnish, sheet metal in the Dutch language is the same, shall be protected by a lacquer to avoid mist.
