When visitors ask where to buy in Barbados, the face (and mind) goes blank for a moment. Shopping? Hmm ... I would not say in Barbados a shopping paradise exactly. The franchise stores along Broad Street in Bridgetown is good for watches and perfumes (Cave Shepherd and try to take your passport for the tax price), but Saint-Honore, is not.
It is preferable to shopping in Barbados as part of his discovery of the culture Island instead of finding a costume designer. This way, you will not be disappointed. In fact, you'll be happy, because what you find in the next is really a piece of Barbados. My favorite places to buy tickets and to offer to visitors are:
Grading 1. Since 1978, Goldie Spieler and her son David has been creating ceramic tableware and whimsical useful service pieces, candlesticks, placemats, decorations table, and more, all the colors of our sea and beautiful sunsets watermelon. Their study is featured in her shop, Edgehill Heights, St. Thomas. They ship, but it is fun just to buy a few pieces every time you visit Barbados and slowly build your collection table. 246-425-0223
2. Ins Outs & Emporium. Next to the Land Movement, this shop sells the best jams (lemon, grapefruit, orange, and more) that I been around the world. The brand is called Jam Ins & Outs and the packaging is adorable, stack three together in a pretty package, making the jam a special gift for friends. The detail is also really good chutneys, pepper sauce and an accompaniment to food. Make sure you pack what you buy in your checked baggage, I learned the hard way by three gift sets marmalade (which is 9 bottles!) confiscated at the airport Grantley Adams International. I almost cry!
3. Also next Grading is an art gallery called fabulous little on the wall with the magnificent work of Vanita Comissiong and other Great Artists. Upstairs is a fabulous meal, Treehouse Café. The food is delicious and the view from the terrace open to the lush valley St. George's impressive.
4. Greenwich Antiques One hundred years ago, housing in Greenwich Antiques elegant mansion is a sugar plantation. Today, the beautiful rooms of the house is filled with brim with a number of treasures from the early 19th century 20 and later. Stroll among the heavy mahogany furniture made by artisans from Barbados, China, silver and jewels in abundance. I like going here with a friend and taking my time sifting with organized chaos of treasures. Unless you have the kind a husband who likes to wander aimlessly among the old things, leave him on the beach while you shop. Trent Hill, St James.
5. Walkers World One of my favorite song shops in Barbados, Walkers world sells beautiful items for home, some made locally and others chosen by the good eye by the owner Karin Truedsson and imported. Two locations: St. Lawrence Gap Christ Church and Edgehill, St Thomas.
6. The Best of Barbados in the road famous artist from Barbados Jill Walker, as a form of local art show, Best of Barbados is now the No. 1 gift shop on the island for art by Jill. Watercolors Jill and beautiful oil paintings of traditional life in Barbados have been reinterpreted in dishcloths, pot holders, beach towels, aprons, coffee mugs. You can also purchase prints and art posters from street scenes fun Jill from a bygone era of exotic flowers and tropical Barbados. Various locations around the island, including St Lawrence Gap and the International Airport Grantley Adams.
It is the specialty of shopping ... and special purchases. Each of these points have quality products that will not find anywhere elsewhere. Who needs, rue Saint-Honoré?
