Collierville is the second oldest town in Shelby County, Tennessee. Formally located at Poplar Pike in 1836, the agreement was called Jesse Collier a businessman who divides the land into lots, and published in "The City of necklace for sale" in the Memphis Enquirer. The first mayor is Richard Ramsey as the city was incorporated in 1850.
Collierville received a premature death, however, due to "Sherman's March to the Sea. When the forces of the South attempted to repay the deposit of Collierville and disrupting rail service to the Union on the morning of October 11, 1863, had no idea that the most important general in the Theater of the West, William T. Sherman and colleagues gathered in their surprise attack. Sherman was the closest ever been killed or captured during the Civil War. He lost his horse and his entourage, and thus burned City of Collierville ground.
After the Civil War, he moved the city when Harrison Irby and Virginius Leake bought, subdivided and sold Batch current location of the city. James B. Abington was mayor of Collierville seconds constitution February 17, 1870.
The next century saw a period continued growth of the town of Collierville, it became the center of the cotton industry for an area including Shelby County and all surrounding counties. When weevil cotton has had a negative impact on the cotton industry, the city has changed its approach to the dairy industry and is known as the cheese capital of western Tennessee. Much of the history of the city can be seen and read about in the Confederation Park, also known as the historic village square. The original buildings still standing, full of thriving businesses, antique shops, and Collierville restaurants that contribute to preserving the legacy and spirit of the city.
Collierville is now a thriving community, with mostly large buildings and a growing economic base. Somehow the city has managed to grow with a strong link with its past and an even stronger impetus to maintain this friendship, a small city that builds a strong community.
